Reinstated on appeal
A permanent exclusion decided in twenty minutes, overturned on the evidence the panel never saw.
A Year 10 pupil was permanently excluded following an allegation of assault. The governors’ panel upheld it without viewing CCTV that the school held but had not disclosed.
What we did
We requested the footage under a subject access request rather than through the appeal process, which produced it in twenty-eight days. It showed the pupil had been struck first and had not retaliated.
Outcome
The independent review panel quashed the decision and directed reconsideration. The pupil was reinstated and sat his GCSEs on time.
