A six-week fraud trial that turned on a single badly disclosed spreadsheet.
Our client faced eleven counts of conspiracy to defraud. The prosecution case rested on transaction records that had been exported, sorted and re-exported before disclosure, which meant the row order no longer matched the original ledger.
What we did
We instructed a forensic accountant to rebuild the ledger from the raw database dump. The reconstruction showed nine of the eleven transactions had been mis-sequenced, and on the correct timeline our client could not have authorised them.
Outcome
The Crown offered no evidence on eight counts at the close of its case. The jury acquitted on the remaining three in under four hours.
